Family that stand up paddle boards together, stays together

Can’t seem to make to the gym these days? No more excuses because we’ve curated 10 fun and easy ways to stay all summer-long.

Grab some friends, head outside and pick your favorite activity to keep that summer bod in check.

1) Swimming

It’s the perfect addition to your workout routine. It challenges your body’s physical form including your flexibility, endurance, speed, coordination & strength. With hot weather and a refreshing pool, what could be better while working out?

Head out with the family and your furry friends to hit the calm waters with your stand up paddle board. Don’t have one? Many places allow you to rent them!

Are you a beach bum? Take up surfing lessons and strengthen your core while enjoying the coastal water. You may want to start practicing your burpees now!

If you prefer land, the beach is a great place to stretch, practice yoga or play some football to get your heart pumping.

Bonus tips: You could play water polo, try water aerobics or even take to the pool for some play time with your kids. Make it a family event while getting fit at the same time!

2) Tennis

Start with a warm up like jogging in place or jumping jacks. Then, hit the court with a friend for some friendly doubles action and get serving to work up a sweat.

3) Hiking

In SoCal we have endless trails, mountains and parks to walk, run or hike. We’ve listed a few of our favorite places for gorgeous scenic view – get your backpack ready for an adventure.

  • Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve – hikers often catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins
  • Cowless Mountain – the views are quite picturesque
  • Iron Mountain Trail – 5.8 miles of flat and climbing sections
  • Cedar Creek Falls Trail – offers a swimming hole at the end called the Devil’s Punchbowl with a 75-foot cliff

Even if you don’t have a local beach, you can still start your morning with a brisk walk or light jog. Get your heart pumping with some sprint intervals on the sand or a hill to really feel the burn.

4) Outdoor workouts

Grab your girlfriends, head to the beach, park or an industrial area with stairs. Here you’ll find a free yet challenging workout; just use your bodyweight for a total-body workout including cardio and strength training. Hold each other accountable while working out, you will have so much fun, you won’t even realize you are working out.

Here are some great workout moves you can try anywhere!

Stair Lunges

Workouts can be easy and short. Find your nearest stairs and get to lunging!
