The holidays are quickly approaching!

We’ve got the inside scoop on staying active, some helpful holiday beauty hacks, and quick tips for finding balance during this busy season.

Your ultimate holiday survival guide awaits…

1.Work out with your BFF

Sticking to a workout routine is a million times easier when you have a workout buddy. Seriously, it’s a scientific fact. So grab your best friend and do something new to get fit and stay motivated this holiday season. Challenge each other to see how many sit-ups or squats you can do, the runner up buys the post-work out protein shake!

2. Plank to strengthen your core

It’s fairly simple and can be super effective for strengthening the core.

Planks are an ideal exercise for the abdominal muscles exactly because they engage all major core muscle groups. You will strengthen your posture, balance and become more flexible. Do this once a day for as long as you can to see a difference in your body.

Bonus Tip. Don’t forget to stretch; those giant exercise balls make for a nice, supportive back-bend!

3. GET MOVING – whatever you do keep active

Whether its shopping, activities with family, or sitting and watching a movie while doing sit-ups; keep active and continue to move.

When your normal work out routine or gym time is cut in half due to holiday plans, use the limited time you have to keep your heart rate up.

Think about the extra work you are putting in over the holidays, from hours on your feet cooking, to bringing down boxes of decorations from the attic. Those activities count too!

1.Focus on protein and veggies

The holidays are a whirlwind of parties and happy hours. Every event may seem like an excuse to splurge, but the consequence just might be the worst kind of post-party affliction: a food hangover!

Try to stick to the basics that will keep your energy up with finger food veggies and high protein. Eat slower and not too late, this will help you stay focused and remain fit.

2. Ditch the sauce, sprinkle almonds instead

If the only way you can enjoy a salad is by drenching it in a cup of dressing, then you may not be getting all of the benefits from ‘eating a salad’ that you had intended.

A great alternative is to add nuts, dried fruit or seeds. This adds a bit of crunch and keeps from adding on the calories you don’t want.

3. Only splurge on what you LOVE, in moderation

Pumpkin spice lattes, cranberry pies and candied yams all let us know that the holiday season has officially arrived!

We are all doing our best day by day so go ahead and indulge in that one special sweet treat. Life is short.

One glass of eggnog won’t kill you… just try to stop at one!

If you are baking cookies or making a pie, try to limit yourself to just one –  gift the rest to neighbors or co-workers, that way they are not sitting in the kitchen begging to be eaten.

1. Pay it forward, buy a second cup to gift

Have you ever had someone show you random kindness?  It’s such an amazing feeling and it’s just as wonderful when you’re the one on the giving end – possibly even more so!

Whether you stop at the Starbucks every day on the way to work, or just enjoy a stroll around the corner for your favorite tea, buying an extra cup of coffee for the person directly in front or behind you will make their day and you’ll feel great about it!

2.Carry cash only, leave credit cards at home to save money

It’s the season where malls are crowded, long lines never seem to end, and wish lists get longer and longer.

When the season is constantly coming out with the newest technology or fashion trend, managing your bank account can be tricky during the peak shopping season.

One tip that might help is to create a budget in only cash. Leave the credit cards at home – this will save from getting buyer’s remorse or worse, dreaded overdraft.

3. Find a charity that means something to you and splurge like you would on your BFF

Make a difference and help families in need. Just like you spend time finding that perfect gift for the special person in your life, take the same amount of time to pick out the toys and clothes you no longer need for someone who could benefit from them.

The holidays are tough for many who are unable to provide gifts for their families, let alone food on the table. This season, try gifting 2 boxes of items to your favorite local charity.

1. Try a Kool Aid Lip Stain for a holiday party!

Ever tried Kool-Aid on your lips before? We think The Beauty Department explained how to try this tasty beauty hack perfectly for your next holiday gathering!

STEP 1: Pick your flavor.

STEP 2: Dampen your finger and press your finger in the powder to pick up one coat.

STEP 3: Rub your finger all over your lips. Try not to eat it immediately like we did; it is sooo hard because it’s so good!

STEP 4: Dampen a Q-tip to go back over it and smooth out any clumps or uneven edges.

Now all you need is your holiday LBD and festive clutch!

2. Find a great multi-tasking beauty product so you can spend time with loved ones.

You may have heard the buzz, but NuFACE is launching a triple threat, dual-sided cleansing cloth this holiday season.

These Prep-N-Glow cloths make it easy for even the busiest woman to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate skin all in one easy step.

Plus, it’s the best way to prep before you use your NuFACE Trinity or mini device!

3. Add a little extra sparkle to get in the festive spirit

You don’t need a steady hand to add some sparkle to your nail polish. Adding any amount of glitter to your nails is the simplest way to take your nails from blah to bam!

Grab your favorite color and polish brand, then add some sparkle to your hands and toes right at home! Give yourself a mini mani as you gear up for all of the fun holiday festivities.

1. Stick to your holiday list (to avoid extra costs that won’t really matter in the end)

It can be so easy to buy that one extra toy for your niece, or that really cute top your mom just needs – but stick to your list.

Lists are great for those that tend to get easily distracted by those pretty holiday displays in-store but by making a list and checking it twice, you can keep your holiday shopping organized and save money in the end.

2. Smile more – the holidays can get stressful

Holidays can get stressful but here are some tips to make yourself and others feel better.

There’s a lot of value in showing that grin, including surprising scientific benefits of smiling that can help you improve your health. The advantages of wearing a smile include:

  • Boosting your mood
  • Improving heart health
  • Turning around a sour situation
  • Helping ease stress

Try smiling more everyday, see how good it makes you feel.

3. Maintain a good work-life balance – don’t over-commit

It can be difficult to prioritize and balance your non-holiday schedule, let alone once November hits. With so many activities going on with family, friends, and work obligations – it’s important to make sure to focus on balance.

If you can make it to your neighbor’s party and your parents holiday dinner the same day, great. If not, don’t stress about not being able to fulfill all of these activities that tend to pop up during the holidays. Be present and make sure that you’re taking time to actually enjoy the holidays with your friends and family.

Remember, the holidays only come once a year and only last for a few weeks. If you follow these tips, you might just find this year to be more joyful and less stressful.
