Getting waxed is an easy way to avoid shaving and tweezing. An eyebrow wax is a pretty casual affair, whereas a bikini wax can be more terrifying.
To help you prepare for your next or first waxing appointment, below are some tips and tricks on how to make it the best possible experience!
HISTORY OF WAXING
Although waxing seems like a newer trend, waxing dates back to ancient Greece, where having pubic hair was considered uncivilized. It is believed that women in ancient Greece, would use sharp seashells to scrape their skin to remove underarm hair. Sounds super painful.
Luckily in today’s world, we have easier at home remedies and spa options for hair removal.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WAXING
Listen girls, the truth hurts.
Of course ripping hair out of follicles isn’t going to be an utterly comfortable experience. However, in the hands of an experienced esthetician the process is only minorly painful. It helps if your esthetician has extensive experience with hair removal, especially with Brazilian Bikini Waxes.
Let it grow
If you are planning on getting a Brazilian wax, or any other part of your body, the first thing you need to do is let it grow!
According to Club Beauty Waxing Studio -” We require that you have at least a 3 week hair growth. Honestly, the longer the better for your first wax. It is VERY important to have enough hair growth when you come for your appointment. This allows the wax to grab the hairs easily. “
Get a professional esthetician!
Trust us, it will save you a lot of time and pain to make sure you are putting yourself in the right hands.
“Go to a professional technician that only waxes,” Melanie Gilliland, European Wax Center’s Chief Wax Expert and Educator, explains to me over email. “You want someone who specializes in the waxing trade, and knows the techniques that are easiest on the skin.”
Before you go…
Exfoliation is key. By removing dead skin cells that surround the hair follicle prior to waxing the hair will come out much easier and make for a less painful wax.
Prep your speaking points.
Having something to talk about will help take your mind off the pain and will help keep you distracted. Additionally, a good esthetician will work with you to make sure you’re as comfortable as you can be. Don’t be too shy to say something if you have a low pain tolerance — it’s better to speak up than to suffer in silence.
Worried about pain?
Take two ibuprofen a few hours before your session. After your session, you can use Hydrocortisone cream to help sooth your skin.
After your waxing session, the area can remain sensitive, avoid scrubbing the area and avoid exposing the area to sunlight for at least 48 hours.
Some people develop ingrown hairs after a wax. Splurge for a post waxing serum to help sooth your irritated skin.
Bump eraiser offers several different types of post care serums that can help to sooth the area and help prevent ingrown hairs.
WHAT WE LEARNED THE HARD WAY
These stories will either make you never want to get a wax or have a laugh or two.
“I ended up having to call the guy I was dating to come and take the rest of the wax off.”
I did my first ever bikini wax myself. I applied the wax not knowing that if left on too long, it would be impossible to remove. I spent nearly an hour trying to haul off the wax. I ended up having to call the guy I was dating to come and take the rest of the wax off. I’ve been sticking to the razor ever since. – chelseakc18
“In waxing training my friend’s husband came in for a back wax. He was as nervous as me. I was still learning and when I made a mistake I said ‘whoops’ really loudly. He looked up nervously and gave me a little piece of advice which I never forgot – ‘Never say ‘whoops’ with wax in your hand!’” – Belinda Hughes, Natural Beauty Expert
“I got up to soaking wet paper from my nervous back sweat. Gross.”
It was my first wax ever and every time the wax came off I’d laugh like hell because I was so nervous. When we were done, I got up to soaking wet paper from my nervous back sweat. Gross.- jordanap2
Although it can be intimidating, the benefits of getting a wax are so great!
Hair will be finer, softer and there will be less of it! Some people experience fifty percent hair reduction in three or four visits. Now that is a win, win!
We hope these tips will help if you are a beginner or just a refresh for those that are pros.
